Professor Juan Manuel Garcia-Ruiz (Seville, 1953) is an interdisciplinary scientist who has dedicated his career to the study of crystallization phenomena across various fields, including the formation of giant crystals, self-organization in biological and geological structures with implications for the origin of life, the detection of primitive life, and the development of new materials.
A globally recognized authority in crystallography, professor Garcia-Ruiz now devotes most of his time to frontier research, pushing the boundaries of knowledge into uncharted and exciting territories.
As an Ikerbasque professor at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), he leads several cutting-edge projects that apply the scientific method to illuminate topics as diverse as the origin of life, the search for life on Mars, the connections between science and art, and the relationship between crystals and their impact on the mind from hominids to the present day.
Our laboratory's mission is to explore frontiers. No just the frontiers of science but also the frontiers between different sciences and between science, art, and the mind.
