The Crystallization Contest in Schools is an educational initiative aimed at bringing science closer to secondary and high school students, making them active participants in the scientific process through the fascinating world of crystals. Since its creation, the Ikerbasque Professor Juan Manuel Garcia-Ruiz has been behind the rationale of the contest, serving as one of its main driving forces. What began as a local activity in the region of Andalucia has now grown to be held annually across nearly the entire country, enjoying great success and participation.
The contest combines both theory and practice of crystal growth, allowing students to experience the scientific method first-hand: from designing the experiment to presenting their results in a format similar to a scientific conference.
