Can animals appreciate beauty? Experiments led by Professor Juan Manuel García-Ruiz reveal a fascinating connection between chimpanzees and crystals. The apes examined the crystals from different angles, looked through them and selected them from among ordinary stones. As reported by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, the findings suggest that our attraction to geometric shapes, transparency and sparkle may have far deeper evolutionary roots than previously thought.
