The Ikerbasque professor at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), Juan Manuel García-Ruiz, takes part today in the event “AVE Doñana: Doñana desde el aire. Batalla de geometrías”, a dialogue between science and art taking place at 18h30 at the headquarters of the Fundación Biodiversidad (Patio de Banderas Square, 16) in Seville.
The session is part of the AVE Doñana program, an international platform that connects art, science and the conservation of natural heritage. The initiative is promoted by the Maldonado Education Through Art Foundation (META Miami) in collaboration with Fundación Biodiversidad and the Doñana Biological Station (EBD–CSIC).
In this event, García-Ruiz will be in conversation with visual artist and writer Héctor Garrido, a photographer closely linked to Doñana for more than two decades. Together they will reflect on the tension between the organic geometries of nature and the geometric patterns introduced by human activity across the territory, connecting perspectives from physics, biology, landscape studies and visual art.
The dialogue will explore how self-organization processes in nature, a central focus of García-Ruiz’s research, can engage with artistic interpretations of the landscape, such as Garrido’s aerial photography, offering new ways of understanding the transformations of one of Europe’s most important wetland ecosystems.
The activity is part of the Dialogues between Art and Nature series, which brings together artists, scientists, and researchers to explore how knowledge and creativity can deepen our understanding of landscapes and their conservation.
